Point Prim Lighthouse

View of Point Prim Lighthouse against a blue sky in PEI, Canada.

PEI's oldest lighthouse sits at the tip of a narrow finger of land east of Charlottetown. At Point Prim Lighthouse (pointprimlighthouse.com; adult/child $6/3.50), built in 1845, you can climb the steep ladder-like stairs to the lookout for views of both sides of the point and out at the seemingly endless sea. A small exhibit area tells you about the structure's history and design – it's one of only three round brick lighthouses in Canada – and about the lighthouse keepers who kept watch here over the years. Purchased from the provincial government for the princely sum of $1, this gorgeous historic lighthouse is maintained by the not-for-profit Point Prim Lighthouse Society.
