Plaza del Dos de Mayo

On May 2 1808, some of the fiercest fighting in Madrid took place in what’s now Plaza dos de Mayo, then the site of a barracks where weapons were handed out to citizens. You can still see the entrance to the Cuartel de Monteleón in the center of the square.
