One of the waterfront's few Victorian remnants, Pierhead is a red-brick French Gothic confection, built in 1897 with Bute family money to impress the maritime traffic. Its ornate clock tower earned it the nickname "Wales" Big Ben'. Once headquarters of Cardiff Railway, it is now shows a short film of what Cardiff Bay looked like pre-refurb, from the 1800s onwards, complemented by interactive displays and artifacts.
It's an offshoot of the Senedd, Wales' National Assembly, next door.
