Among the splendid reminders of Deventer's Hanseatic past is the Penninckshuis, in the enclosure behind the statue of Albert Schweitzer. Home of the 16th-century cloth merchant Herman Penninck, it has a sculpted facade that's considered a highlight of the Renaissance. It is home to the tourist office today.
