Parlament der Bäume Memorial

What looks like a charmingly unruly garden hidden within the government quarter is actually a memorial against war and violence. Dreamed up in 1990 by environmental artist Ben Wagin, this "parliament" centers on 16 trees, each representing a German state (hence the name). Original Wall slabs and granite plaques engraved with the names of 258 people who died trying to cross the Wall complete this poignant and contemplative ensemble that is still lovingly maintained by its creator.
