Jimbaran’s 4km-long arc of sand is one of Bali’s best beaches. The bay is protected by an unbroken coral reef, which keeps the surf more mellow than at popular Kuta further north, although you can still get breaks that are fun for bodysurfing.
The beach is famous for the scores of seafood restaurants that line the 4km bay and spill out onto the golden sand, and an evening spent here allows you to indulge in exceptionally fresh locally caught fish that’s barbecued while you soak up the laid-back tropical ambiance.
As evening falls and strings of lights begin to twinkle, aromatic smoke from the restaurants’ grills swirls through the air, and meandering musicians serenade diners seated at tables on the sand. Along Jimbaran’s sweeping 4km beach are three groups of restaurants. All sell the fish by weight (snapper is about 150,000Rp per kilogram at Pantai Muaya). The price includes rice and vegetables, and platters and set menus are available, too.
