According to (undocumented) local tradition, the 14th-century Palazzo del Bargello was the residence of Gubbio's medieval police magistrate. Nowadays, it houses the Esposizione della Balestra, a small museum dedicated to the town's Palio della Balestra festival.

The palazzo is the only medieval residence in town that has never been altered inside or out.
