Built around a late-18th-century John Nash–designed structure, this stunning Gothic-revival building flaunts castellated towers, conical spires and flamboyant gargoyles. It was intended as a grand hotel in the mid-19th century, but it was sold to Aberystwyth University's founders before receiving a single guest. It is due to open as a major new cultural center, museum and cafe-bar with artists' spaces and other facilities for the building's sesquicentennial celebrations, in 2022–23. It already hosts sporadic exhibitions and events (see the website for details).
