Nandyavarta Mahal, Kundalpur

Just outside Nalanda you’ll find the striking Nandyavarta Mahal at Kundalpur, believed by the Digambar Jain sect to be the birthplace of Lord Mahavira, the final tirthankar and founder of Jainism. The complex houses three hot-white temples. Climb the long stairway in the central shrine to find a postured idol of Mahavira that flashes different colors in evening light. The building on the left hand side is a kind pictorial museum.
