Jaffna Archaeological Museum

This small, unkempt but interesting museum is worth seeking out. At the door are a pair of rusty Dutch cannons and a set of piled up whale bones. The quirky treasures inside include a lice comb, a dugong tusk necklace, some fine miniature ivory Buddhas and a set of brass sieves for grading pearls. Look for the terrifying hooks and nail sandals used for self-mortification during bloody kavadai rituals. No photos allowed.
