This lovely complex is an airy Hindu temple set amid mature neem (Indian lilac) trees, a 10-minute walk north from the Nagadipa Temple. The main temple deity is Parvati in the form of the naga (serpent) goddess Meenakshi, a consort of Shiva. Women wishing to conceive come here seeking blessings, delivered during the trance-inducing midday puja.
The site is one of the Indian Subcontinent's 51 Shakti Peethas – locations where pieces of the goddess Shakti's body (in this case her ankle) fell to earth after she self-immolated.
An impressive festival is held in June/July every year and attracts over 100,000 people.
It's directly in front of the northern ferry jetty, from where boats depart for Kurikadduwan.
