Homewood

Barn cats dart around this down-home winery, where the only bling in sight are "wine diamonds" – the dark crystals at the bottom of bottles of Homewood's unfined, unfiltered, unmanipulated zinfandel. Winemaker/owner David Homewood also crafts age-worthy chardonnays and roussannes, plus ports that pair beautifully with chocolate (bottles $20 to $36). Tasting fees are waived with purchase (one bottle per person). If you're bringing friends, request a garden tasting (up to eight people) or "the redder the better" lounge (15 people maximum).
