Mission San Francisco Solano

The 21st and final California mission (sonomaparks.org) was built in 1823 by Native American conscripts, commemorated on the wall of the 1840 chapel – many died of European-introduced diseases, including measles and smallpox. You can appreciate their adobe and redwood construction in five restored rooms. The mission lasted just 11 years but included vast estates, including thousands of livestock and Sonoma's first vineyards. When the mission was secularized, Mexico legally restored livestock and land to Native ownership, but US settlers claimed the land.
