"Do something better every day" was the motto that led maverick winemaker Mike Grgich from Croatia to Napa to Paris, where his Napa Valley chardonnay won top honors in the legendary 1976 Judgment of Paris. Wineries worldwide recruited him – but Mike became a farmer instead. He championed sustainable methods, growing grapes biodynamically without artificial pesticides, using wild yeast for fermentation, and solar-powering his operations.
