The city's bohemian spirit comes alive at Galway Market, which has been set up in this spot (around St Nicholas Church on Lombard St and Churchyard Lane) for centuries. Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 6pm are the standout for food, when farmers and fisherfolk sell fresh produce alongside stalls selling flowers, arts, crafts and street food; buskers add to the festive atmosphere.
Additional markets take place from noon-6pm daily in July and August, and there’s an atmospheric Galway Christmas Market December 14-24.
