The GDR was founded in 1949 in this behemoth that housed Hermann Göring’s Reich Air Ministry during the Nazi years and now serves as the home of the Federal Ministry of Finance. It's closed to the public, but the 20m-long mural along Leipziger Strasse, made of Meissen porcelain tiles by GDR artist Max Lingner in 1950 for what was then East Germany's House of Ministries, is worth a look.
It's an idealised depiction of strong and optimistic East Germans looking forward to a bright future under socialism.
