Cymer Abbey

This Cistercian abbey, founded in 1198, was once home to sheep-rearing and gold-panning monks, and its ruined walls and looming arches are still bleakly picturesque, especially if you ignore the surrounding caravan park. You can reach the Precipice Walk from the abbey on foot. The ruins are 2 miles northwest of Dolgellau, signposted from the A470.
