Originally built in timber and earth in around 1100 to control a crossing on the River Teifi, this sturdy stone incarnation with two massive round towers dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. Climb to the top for views over the wooded river valley. Cilgerran is 4 miles southeast of St Dogmaels.
