Cathedral

The ornate, baroque facade of Riobamba's cathedral was reconstructed from fragments after the 1797 earthquake that destroyed the town. Made from white limestone, the relief depicts both indigenous and Spanish images. The cathedral is often closed, but the building exterior (its most interesting aspect) can be viewed any time.
