Cathedral Basilica of St Augustine

With its magnificent bell tower lording it over the Plaza de la Constitution, this Spanish-mission-style cathedral is the country's first Catholic house of worship and this is certainly the oldest parish – the first mass was celebrated here on 8 September 1565. After an earlier church was destroyed by the British, the current church was finished in 1797. The sanctuary is a pretty, airy mix of wood and murals.
