These ancient stairs connect San Pietro in Vincoli with Via Cavour, passing underneath an ivy-covered 13th-century building. This elegant palazzo was the residence of Rodrigo Borgia and his (illegitimate) family before he was elected pope as Alexander VI (r 1492–1503).
