Aberystwyth Castle

Erected between 1277 and 1289 by England's Edward I, Aberystwyth Castle was captured by Owain Glyndŵr in 1404, then retaken by the future Henry V in 1407. Slighted by Oliver Cromwell in 1649, the castle retains three partial towers and some outer wall, and offers expansive seaward views. A stone circle planted in the castle's center remains from a 1915 eisteddfod, while the large war memorial in front of it features a surprisingly saucy nude.
