Overview

Now that you’ve gotten Haarlem’s lay of the land, you’ll set off on an exciting day trip to the Dutch capital. After breakfast, board the roughly 15-minute-long train ride to Amsterdam. To maximize your time here, you’ll be given a pass to access public transit, so you can navigate Amsterdam by bus, metro, tram, or train. With your pass in hand, it’s off to the races, beginning with a scenic, hour-long canal cruise through the city. Once you’re back on dry land, you’ll head to the Van Gogh Museum for a world-renowned showcase of the famous painter. Weather-permitting, you can follow this museum trip with a break in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, a sprawling, green oasis near the city’s main museums. There’s no better spot to observe the laid-back locals as you soak up the sun. If you're feeling hungry or thirsty, you can do as the Dutch do and bring your own picnic. Or, visit the neighboring taproom of Amsterdam's first-ever micro-brewery. Speaking of beer, you’ll also have the opportunity to check out local distilleries and additional breweries for tastings of the Old Dutch genever and local beers, respectively. As day turns to night, you’ll be free to head back to Haarlem at leisure, though consider grabbing dinner in Amsterdam before departing. The city blossoms with a wide range of restaurants, so why not visit the neighborhoods of De Pijp or the Jordaan for quintessential Dutch dining? (Breakfast)
