Overview
Today brings another big and rewarding day, as you’ll clock around 11 miles over roughly nine hours of hiking. Throughout the course of the day, you’ll gain some 3,780 feet in elevation on your way to your scenic campsite. During the hike, you’ll make a few worthwhile stops. First, you’ll pass through the Kogui Indigenous Reserve, as well as the ceremonial Kogui town of Mutanyi. From your local expert guide and the local indigenous people, you’ll learn all about how the Kogui people worked hard to achieve an incredible ecological balance with the unique ecosystems that now thrive under their stewardship. You’ll also stop at a campsite for lunch and a refreshing river dip, allowing you the chance to cool down and relax. From there, you’ll follow the Buritaca River onward toward your next campsite, which lies just at the base of The Lost City. You’ll set up shop here to enjoy both dinner and another restful night’s sleep. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Mutanyi
Harmonize with nature during a stop in the spectacular Kogui village of Mutanyi. Here, you’ll learn how the local people built their houses using local woods and palm trees. While Kogui villages like Mutanyi appear empty most of the time, the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada still live in these mountains, where they frequently gather with their families.
Bathing in the Buritaca River
On the Lost City Trail, the joy is in the journey, as evidenced by this opportunity to refresh your sore muscles with a bath in the rushing Buritaca River. As you watch the waters flow freely – and then enjoy them for yourself – you’ll understand the importance of the Sierra, not only for the indigenous people but also for everyone else who has the privilege of experiencing this rejuvenating region.
