Gorges du Verdon in detail

Flights & getting there

Public transport in the gorges is limited, but the useful Navette des Gorges du Verdon shuttle bus links Castellane with Point Sublime, La Palud and La Maline (but not Moustiers). Services run twice daily in July and August and on weekends April to June and in September. The fare costs between €2 and €6.

There are also three daily buses from Marseille to Riez (€17.50). At least one bus a day continues to Moustiers, La Palud and Castellane, then returns along the same route. The single fare from Moustiers to Castellane is €7.30.

The Train des Pignes travels north of the gorges: the nearest stops are at St-André-les-Alpes, 21km north of Castellane, and Barrême, 25km northwest.

Getting Around

Apart from the Navette des Gorges du Verdon shuttle bus, the only real way to properly explore the gorges is either to cycle or to drive – although be warned that traffic on the narrow roads can be extremely heavy in July and August – and reversing along some of the narrower, single-track roads is not for the faint-hearted.
