Helsinki's only original traditional public wood-fired sauna dates back to 1928. It’s a classic experience, where you can also get a scrub down and massage (from €30). There are separate saunas for men and women; bring your own towel or rent one (€3). It’s a 150m stroll southwest of the Sörnäinen metro station.

This type of place largely disappeared with the advent of shared saunas in apartment buildings, although a recent resurgence has seen several new public saunas being opened in the city.
