Quilotoa Lagoon and Indian Markets in One Day from Quito

Quilotoa, an emerald colored lake located inside a volcano crater, is one of the Andes’ gems. At 3800m, the lake is also a host to surrounding indigenous communities. The drive to Quilotoa passes through the Zumbahua canyon and various indigenous towns and farmlands. Depending on the day, we will visit either the Saquisilí (Thursdays), or Pujilí (Sundays) indigenous markets so you can appreciate the contrast between these and those of the Imbabura province (Otavalo). We then arrive at the Quilotoa National Park and begin our descent to the lake, you can hike back up or rent a mule to take you back up. After lunch we will visit Shalala, a community well known for their handicrafts.  Weather in Quilotoa is very unpredictable, so we recommend being prepared with warm and waterproof clothing (layers always help). Quito to Quilotoa Crater Lagoon Small-Group Hiking Day Trip

We start our day with a visit to the famous local market of Saquisilí (Thursdays). If your visit is on a Sunday we visit instead the first missionary church in Ecuador, located in Pujili's town. Continuing our trip, we pass through the indigenous villages of the area which provide a fantastic chance to see the true Ecuador. When we arrive at the spectacular Quilotoa Lagoon, we hike down to the shores and back up again in a beautiful 2-hour hike. Quilotoa Lake full day from Quito

Early morning, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel to take you by mini Van or 4wd car to the Quilotoa lagoon. Depending on the day of the week, the first stop will be in one of the most beautiful markets of the Ecuadorian Hightlands with fruits, vegetables and in some cases animals, after this visit while you are going to cross the mountains of the central province of Cotopaxi and pass through the community of Zumbahua. You also can make a second stop and take pictures of the amazing landscape on the viewpoint of the Toachi River Canyon. Once in the Quilotoa Lagoon you can hike down along the road towards the shores of this beautiful place. After a free time to enjoy, you will take the way back to the viewpoint, you can do it walking or renting a mule (extra cost). After lunch (not included) within the community of Quilotoa, the return to Quito begins. On the way we will visit the community of Tigua where you can see and buy some paintings and masks done by the locals. Once in Quito your driver will drop off you at your hotel.
