Quilotoa Day Trip from Quito

Begin your tour by meeting the group at a central meeting point in Quito. Depart from La Mariscal at 7am or Old Town at 7:20am. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Transportation to Quilotoa will take approximately 2 hours. Start by exploring a Saquisili market if your tour is on a Thursday. If you are traveling on a Sunday, you will visit Pujili. You will have the opportunity to meet a native family. Next, begin hiking down to the Quilotoa lake. You will have some time to explore the Laguna shore before beginning your ascent to the Laguna viewpoint (you may optionally rent a mule for $10 USD). Take a break to enjoy a local lunch around 3:30pm. Finally, make a stop to visit a Tigua community before returning to your shared meeting points in Quito at the conclusion of your tour around 7pm.

Quilotoa Lagoon and Indian Markets in One Day from Quito

Quilotoa, an emerald colored lake located inside a volcano crater, is one of the Andes’ gems. At 3800m, the lake is also a host to surrounding indigenous communities. The drive to Quilotoa passes through the Zumbahua canyon and various indigenous towns and farmlands. Depending on the day, we will visit either the Saquisilí (Thursdays), or Pujilí (Sundays) indigenous markets so you can appreciate the contrast between these and those of the Imbabura province (Otavalo). We then arrive at the Quilotoa National Park and begin our descent to the lake, you can hike back up or rent a mule to take you back up. After lunch we will visit Shalala, a community well known for their handicrafts. Weather in Quilotoa is very unpredictable, so we recommend being prepared with warm and waterproof clothing (layers always help).Itinerary • Pick up at 7am in the New Town (Magic Bean Cafe) • Pick up at 7:15am in the Old Town (Plaza San Blas) • Leave towards Saquisili / Pujili / Indian markets (it depends on the day) • Arrive to Quilotoa followed by trek around the crater • Lunch • Arrive to Tigua community • Return towards Quito

Quito to Quilotoa Crater Lagoon Small-Group Hiking Day Trip

We start our day with a visit to the famous local market of Saquisilí (Thursdays). If your visit is on a Sunday we visit instead the first missionary church in Ecuador, located in Pujili's town. Continuing our trip, we pass through the indigenous villages of the area which provide a fantastic chance to see the true Ecuador. When we arrive at the spectacular Quilotoa Lagoon, we hike down to the shores and back up again in a beautiful 2-hour hike.
