Beautifully painted and embroidered silk fans are on display at the Suzhou Fan Museum (苏扇搏物馆, Sūshàn Bówùguǎn, closed Mondays) on Pingjiang Lu. Look out for a recurring cat motif: rat-catching cats, known as "silkworm cats," were an essential part of Suzhou's silk industry, protecting the precious silkworms and their environment from pests.
