About the author
I've been exploring Southeast Asia since I first passed through as a backpacker on the old Hippie Trail. In their early years, I was editor of the Insight Guides in Singapore. Later I was an editor at The Los Angeles Times and the Michelin Guides in Paris, and I wrote a couple of dozen books and hundreds of magazine articles. Originally from Oregon, I did graduate work in Asian culture and history in Seattle and Honolulu.
