Courtyard by Marriott Bengaluru Hebbal (Karnataka)

Often there is a hotel that is not on the mainstream radar but works perfectly for a staycation. This is one such hotel. A simple drive (Bengaluru’s traffic notwithstanding), the suites and rooms here offer everything you need to relax (think deep bath tubs in the suites), a beautiful view of Nagavara Lake and comfortable working spaces (if you just can’t escape). Food is always central to a great staycation. Nazaara on the rooftop brings the best of Indian food to the table, paired with a great bar menu and Manheim craft beers. Don’t forget to try the Galouti here. Hebbal Café makes breakfast an absolute pleasure. The chef whips up some amazing smoothie bowls and offers a special breakfast pass around each day. And they have a great Nalli Nihari and kulcha for breakfast! Want to spend time at the spa, or a sundowner by the pool, those too can happen here.

Wayanad Wild – CgH Earth – Wayanad, Kerala

If you are driving in from Bengaluru to Wayanad Wild, you will cross via the Muthanga Forest. Elephant sightings are a regular feature here. Being careful and respectful of these animals is a must. Wayanad Wild is set atop a small hillock of sorts and is accessed via a winding, green road. Despite a large number of cottages, they are well spaced and you can drive your vehicle right up to the door. The infinity pool, lounge areas that overlook forests, the serene, green pathways, all make for a great escape from the noise of the city. Close by is Kerala’s longest zipline if you are of the adventurous sort.

Aqua Outback – Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu)

This is one for the beach bums. Nestled in the heart of the Coromandel Coast, Aqua Outback is as secluded as you would like your beach to be. Coral reefs and mangroves ensure that. It is also a place surrounded by massive salt pans. Sit on the deck and gaze at the tide coming in, take in a spa session with some sea salts and minerals. For those who like their water sports, here is a place that you can indulge in some quiet fishing, or some adrenaline pumping kayaking or peaceful snorkelling. For those looking for a nature break, it couldn’t get better than this.

Taj Falaknuma – Hyderabad (Telangana)

With design inspired by the White House and the Buckingham Palace, with a generous dose of the Renaissance period thrown in, Taj Falaknuma’s balconies are where you can catch the best sunsets in town. As heritage hotels go, this one can take your breath away. From a 101-seater dining table, to the lovingly restored landscaping, to the nuanced treasures that make up the Nizam’s suite (if you are really looking at indulging yourself), the Taj Falaknuma is an experience in luxury reminiscent of an era gone by.
