Getting around by air

The Aeropuerto Internacional Simón Bolívar is in Maiquetía, near the port of La Guaira on the Caribbean coast, 26km from central Caracas. It’s generally referred to as ‘Maiquetía.’ There are three terminals: the international terminal, the domestic terminal and a small auxiliary terminal used by some smaller charter airlines. The two main terminals are separated by an easy walk of 400m, and it’s about the same distance to the auxiliary terminal. There’s no shuttle service between them.

The terminals have most conveniences, including tourist offices, car-rental desks, casas de cambio (authorized foreign currency-exchange houses), banks, ATMs, post and telephone offices, restaurants and a bunch of travel agencies, but no left-luggage office.

Arrive at least three hours before international flights, as security screenings can be lengthy.
