In 2012, Brooklyn artist Dustin Yellin reimagined the 19th-century Pioneer Iron Works factory as a canvas for contemporary culture. On any given day, programming might include art exhibitions, concerts or scientific deep-dives, inviting guests to gaze through a telescope or discuss the future of vaccinations. Even if there isn’t a special event on the calendar, it’s worth dropping by to take in the airy, three-floor atrium (usually filled with some enormous sculpture) and rest your legs in the garden – a gallery of fruiting trees. The best time to visit is during Second Sundays, when resident artists open their 3rd-floor studios to the public; there's usually live music and food.
A small shop near the entrance sells design-forward books and clothing, often related to exhibitions on view.
