Empire Stores & Tobacco Warehouse

Historic Building in Brooklyn: Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn & Dumbo

Built just after the Civil War, the Empire Stores and Tobacco Warehouse is a vestige of Brooklyn's historic waterfront, which once supported 3 miles of such dignified brick warehouses. Retaining its original structure and features, it's been rehabilitated as an upscale hub of commerce and culture. Alongside luxury outlets such as Detroit accessories store Shinola are such cultural gems as cutting-edge theater St Ann's Warehouse and a small Brooklyn Historical Society museum exploring the borough's relationship with the sea.

Time Out is developing a food market at the site; it's set to open in spring 2019.
