Manoa Heritage Center

Garden in Honolulu

Hidden on a private family’s estate, the centerpiece of this unique site is a stone-walled agricultural heiau (temple) surrounded by Hawaiian ethnobotanical gardens, which include rare native and Polynesian-introduced plants. Walking tours are led by volunteers and staff eager to share island lore and Hawaiian traditions. Try to call at least a week in advance for tour reservations and to get directions. No walk-ins can be accommodated, to protect both the historic site and the resident family’s privacy.
