Sipsey Wilderness

Trekking in North Alabama

Almost 26,000 acres of North Alabama forest, including some of the state's last stands of virgin timber, have been designated a protected wilderness area. There is limited visitor infrastructure within the Sipsey Wilderness, a vast, green space that rewards careful, prepared exploration. There are 12 established trails out here, all ranging from easy to moderate.

A good place of access is the Sipsey River Picnic Area, which affords nice views of sandstone bluffs and acts as a trailhead.
