Fengtian Temple

Chiayi

This temple, founded in 1622, claims to be the first Mazu temple on mainland Taiwan. The original temple is said to have collapsed, been rebuilt, collapsed again and then been destroyed by flood. It was relocated, but the new temple was ruined by successive earthquakes. The present structure was built in 1922 and has survived to this day.

The temple is on the route of the annual nine-day Mazu Pilgrimage.
