Insterburg Castle

Around 1km north of Chernyakhovsk’s train and bus stations, the ruins of this castle are watched over by an eccentric hippie artist who has set up his studio-gallery inside the castle’s remaining structure. You’ll also find a good photo and text display, in Russian and German, on the area’s history. Medieval fencing matches by the local knights’ club are held here occasionally during the summer.
