There are two good reasons to come to Yongkang Street – if you’re hungry, and if you want to buy a souvenir. This lively shopping lane is packed with great traditional Taiwanese and Chinese restaurants, dessert parlors and tons of stores selling fancy gift-boxed teas. The small triangular park, three-quarters of the way up the lane, is always busy with local life. See if you can spot the controversial bust of Chiang Kai-shek in the park's grounds. What also makes this place so special is the location of upmarket establishments right next to mom-and-pop eateries where the food bubbles temptingly in steel pans up front. Look for long queues outside the entrances – this suggests the establishment is a particularly tasty one!
