The shimmering white Wrigley Building was one of the first office buildings north of the Chicago River, and it occupies one of the most scenic spots on the Magnificent Mile. It was built in the early 1920s, and the location was selected by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley himself. The building was once the headquarters for the Wrigley Company. At the time of its construction, the city’s business hub was further south, and the DuSable Bridge across the Chicago River was still under construction. The Wrigley Building was the first air-conditioned office building in the city, and its gleaming white terra-cotta, French Renaissance details and iconic clock face are the stuff of postcards.
