Waterloo Great House

This elegant townhouse, a splendid example of the Jamaican vernacular style, with a shady wraparound veranda and jalousies, once belonged to John Leyden, the logging magnate whose family transformed this town. In 1893, Waterloo became the first building in Jamaica to have electric lights, and the man himself is buried beside the newer guesthouse building.
