Vashisht Temple

On the opposite side of the Beas River from Manali, in the neighboring village of Vashisht, the Vashisht Temple has similar architecture to what's found in other area temples, with elaborately carved pillars supporting a two-tiered roof. Peek inside to see its scaled-down shrine, which is designed to resemble local architecture, complete with a slate mini-roof and a wood-encased entryway; it houses an idol of the sage Vashisht, to whom the temple is dedicated. The temple also has sulfur-laden hot springs believed to be both sacred and curative, with separate sections for men and women to bathe. Both are walled in, but the ladies' section has higher walls to keep people from looking in. While you can wear a swimsuit, note that some people strip down to their undergarments or enter with clothes on. Bring a towel.
