Uusi Kirkko

The Gothic church in the centre of town was built around 1860, when architects suspected that the original Vanha Kirkko was unstable. The massive structure is built from locally made bricks, and stones cut from local streets. The construction practically bankrupted the parish, as well as the widow who commissioned RW Ekman’s vast altarpieces.
