Big waves were made when Tsukiji's famous tuna auction and wholesale market relocated to Toyosu in 2018, but years after the move, Tsukiji Market (築地場外市場) remains alive and kicking. And it's still Tokyo's best spot for the freshest seafood, street snacks and other delicacies.

You'll want to have space in your stomach for the endless array of food here. Even from the market periphery, fresh cuts of sashimi, kaisendon (assorted raw seafood on rice), grilled crab legs and glistening fruit already clamor for attention.
Weave your way through the densely packed market and you’ll come across food stalls doling out skewers, kitchenware shops with rows of knives on display, sushi stands and more. Years after major wholesale activities and the tuna auction's relocation to Toyosu, the Tsukiji Market seems to have revived and regained its former glory.
Market Tips
Tsukiji is very much a tourist hotspot, and prices here tend to reflect that – perhaps in part, in an effort to recover after the COVID-19 pandemic. It's a good idea to take a look around to see what's in store before picking something to try or buy. Also bear in mind that there's a strict no-bargaining policy.
