From the outside, the Tenement House looks like many other Victorian-era buildings in this corner of Glasgow. But step inside and you are stepping into a time capsule: a snapshot of city life in the early 20th century.
It began with Agnes Toward, a fiercely independent woman who lived in this four-bedroom flat between 1911 and 1965. Her collection of homemade jams are still on display, a century after being jarred, along with cabinets of long-expired condiments, medicines and cleaning products. Look out for period fixtures and furnishings, including gas lighting and horsehair chairs, along with quirky knick-knacks including a stoneware hot water bottle and a collection of "Wally Dugs" (porcelain dogs). Regular talks showcase hidden treasures, and there's a cosy little café downstairs.
