Swan Hill Lift Bridge

This wonderful bridge was built in 1896 to span the Murray River at McCallum St (Victoria)/Moulamein Rd (NSW), which had originally been navigated by a punt. The middle span of the bridge was crank-lifted by hand (one bridge cylinder alone weighed more than 4 tonnes) to allow river traffic to pass. These days, the traffic alternates directions as the bridge has only width for one car.
