Ajrakhpur is known for being the hub of block-printing ( ajrakh means 'block print'), which uses indigo, madder and printed mordants. Sufiyan Ismail Khatri has his own studio, Ajrakh Indigo House, and is the 10th generation of the Khatri family to be practising the art. If he is around, he will walk you through around the space, do a demo of the process, and show you all his natural colours, especially his indigo vats. He even conducts workshops (instagram.com/sufiyankhatri; ₹3500 per person, per day). Upon request he can also show you hundreds of blocks, which are imprinted with his designs that ultimately go on the cloth. His studio has an excellent gift shop, too.
