Upstairs, in a bedroom of the former Australian Joint Stock Bank (c 1882), Helen Goff (aka PL Travers), the author of the Mary Poppins stories, was born. The building has been lovingly restored into a creative and interactive 'story-trading' bank. Outside the building, on the Richmond St pavement, is a diminutive life-size statue of the Mary Poppins character.
