The lower levels of King's Lynn's town hall – a magnificent chequerboard flint structure that started life in 1421 as a guildhall – are given over to a highly entertaining interactive museum telling the stories of local seafarers, explorers, mayors and ne'er-do-wells. Ask if it's possible to look inside the town hall itself – the chambers are full of oil portraits, and windows have inscriptions left by 18th-century glaziers.
