This unusual state park is high on nostalgia. While there are outdoor activities (a riverwalk; canoe and bike rentals), it centers on a museum dedicated to songwriter Stephen Foster, whose 200-plus songs include classics like "Oh! Susanna," "Camptown Races" and, of course, "Old Folks at Home" (aka "Swanee River"). These tunes and others are depicted in painstakingly detailed, somewhat eerie dioramas. Behind the museum, watch artisans at work in Craft Square and learn about weaving, woodworking and more.
A 97-bell carillon plays Foster's music throughout the day, although on our last visit it was under repair. The three-day Florida Folk Festival, a celebration of traditional Floridian music, crafts, food and culture, takes place here every Memorial Day weekend. Campsites ($20 per night) and cabins ($100 per night) are available.
